Creative Evening on Tuesdays @ 33 South in Obs - 48 Trill Road

The Creative Eveningʼs stem from a local Fair Trade initiative to create a direct link between the local artists and the travellers residing in the Backpackersʼ Hostel. The Creative Evenings open people to dialogue and discovery, while bringing business opportunities together. At the heart of the concept lies the Transkei initiative, which promotes self empowerment for the youth of Mpame, a village in the Transkei area. The Creative Evening will support the project through fundraising to develop further their craft-making skills, and get their grass bracelets into a market.



We are holding creative evening at 33 South Boutique Backpackers every Tuesday.
Time: from 5pm till late.
There is a cash bar and wonderful dinners are available from the 33 South Staff.
Bring your own T-Shirt and we will help you get it funkified for only R50 or you can get our Africa logo for R30.
You are also welcome to bring your own drinks.
We start off the evening with live drumming or a performance from one of the local bands in the area.

We are bringing people together to create an evening of culture, sharing, eating, music and printing. Backpackers have always been at the heart of what's new and funky. Here is your chance to share your ideas and creativity with those around you.

The Creative Evenings create a social gathering that gives the guests an opportunity to meet each other, to meet the artists and to meet local neighbours (as the evenings are open to anyone who feels like joining). They will feel right at home from the very first day. The Creative Evenings provide entertainment and a cultural discovery of Africa. Moreover, the direct contact with the artist ensures an optimal authenticity of the craft the guests will buy and bring home. And hopefully, Creative Evenings will make them reflect on their own life and philosophy and incite them to more creativity.

The evening will be a revelation of Africanism for the guests. It will consist in: - A South African dinner; - A Design your own TShirt Fashion Show: Johnʼs Black Star label aims at revealing the heroes of Africa and promoting peopleʼs creativity. The guests will have the opportunity to order a TShirt with the design of their choice; - A concert given by a local band will then set the mood and provide a good party kick off while giving the guests the opportunity to discover South African music instruments; - Other possibilities include Dreamcatchers making workshop, Balance Board initiations (Balance Boards are more than an African tradition, they are also a source of therapy through balance gaining and self confidence), a possible promotion of other projects and artists supported by the Backpackersʼ Hostel, the organisation of a Feed Back from the guests to the Backpackerʼs staff for further improvement.
